Note: Taking a page from Xin Lei's book...
Good: My appointment with Dr. M went well yesterday, and most likely I will be starting Follistim (the medication that stimulates ovaries to grow multiple eggs) on Monday, February 2nd with retrieval (removal of the eggs) projected for Friday, February 13th when AC will hopefully be here.
Bad: While walking through Central Park on my way to the appointment, I slipped and fell on a patch of ice and hurt my wrist.
Ugly: A trip to the NYU Hospital for Joint Diseases revealed that I've broken my wrist (first broken bone ever!) and will be in a cast for at least 6 weeks. Eek!

OH NO?! I am so sorry! Stupid Ice...why does it always have to be so slippery?! Hopefully you didn't break your writing wrist! Hugs girly...glad your appt. went well though.
Hi there I came across your blog and just fell early this morning and was seen in the ER and broke my wrist as well and only have a splint now, need to follow up with a specialist. Can you please recommend someone? I am just outside the city, thank you. How are you feeling? When does the throbbing and pain go away? Dave
Unfortunately it was my right (dominant) hand, so my posts will be a lot shorter from now on (typing with one hand is hard and time consuming!).
Dave, I'm so sorry to hear about your wrist! I also just have a splint right now but I'm supposed to see a hand specialist in a week for follow up and to have the cast put on. A hand surgeon at the Joint Hospital saw me, and he seemed very knowledgeable. I am going to call him tomorrow for an appointment. His name is Nader Paksima, D.O., and his number is (212) 263-2192. I am still definitely in pain, but it's already improved since yesterday. The doctors told me to take Tylenol for pain and to avoid anti-inflammatory drugs since they slow healing. Hope this helps and hope we both feel better soon!
Hey there thanks for writing back. That is unfortunate that its your dominant hand,I guess that you can say i am lucky it's my non dominant hand.
Thank you so much for the # I will call tomorrow and see if he takes my insurance. Do you have dull throbbing?I am taking tylenol 3 thats what the ER gave me.Thank you for the well wishes I hope the same and hope it doesn't take too long to heal. How old are you by the way? I am 28.
Hi Dave,
I would describe the pain more as a dull ache with occasional sharp twinges. Sometimes there is a burning sensation, but I don't really have throbbing. The pain generally tends to get worse in the evening. Maybe you have throbbing because your splint is too tight? Do you have any numbness or tingling in your hand? If so, you should definitely go see a doctor right away.
I was able to make an appointment with Dr. Paksima for Tuesday--luckily he takes my insurance. How about you? I am 26, by the way. Fortunately we are both young and should heal well. I really hope the throbbing improves for you. Take care!
Hey there,I have a burning sensation as well at times and the throbbing happens if I keep my hand down too long I think. I still can't get comfortable at night and I have been popping advil like crazy. The splint is on the tight side and just a little tingling but no numbness. Unfortunately he doesn't take my insurance so I called another doctor and I see her Wednesday,Dr. Levine. I hope your appointment goes well on Tuesday and yes we are young and should heal fast. Feel good and stay in touch, feel free to email me anytime.
I hope your appointment goes well tomorrow, please let me know what happens.Dave
Hi Dave,
My appointment went well, thanks for asking. Now I have a blue fiberglass cast which I can get wet. My wrist hurts more now, but that should improve as it gets used to the new cast. The doctor says I can start using my hand more in a couple of days. I have an appointment in 5 weeks to remove the cast, and then he'll see if I need physical therapy. The doctor thinks it will heal well, so that's a relief! Hope your appointment goes well today-let me know how it turns out!
hi there I am waiting for my appointment,4:30 and I a bit nervous. Does it hurt when they put the cast on? Blue sounds nice,is it for a guy as well or too bright? I was just going to get plain white. Thank you for letting me know that it went well and I hope your not in too much pain,Dave.Feel free to email me on my blackberry if it's easier than here,tippytop100@gmail.com
And here I am,matching blue casts! I can't believe I did it! She said that white gets dirty and she said this dark blue is popular. As for it being waterproof, the doctor laughed when I asked her if it was,she said NO WAY can I get the cast wet! Well I am back to throbbing and pain but it kind of feels better than the splint, more secure. Currently pecking one handed here and resting my hand on a pillow. Hope to chat soon,Dave.
